Commercial construction requires a lot of experience and knowledge. You need a general contractor who is attentive, organized, timely, resourceful, and has a network of excellent professional subcontractors. Black Lab brings all of these components to the job.
But with Black Lab, you get so much more than that. Because of our background, we are able to visualize your goals from the beginning and advise you so you achieve the best version of your project. Other companies will be looking for the cheapest, easiest way to give you what you ask for, even if it’s the wrong way and doomed to fail, thus costing you more to repair later. Our integrity won’t let us do that to anyone. Sadly, it’s a unique concept among our fellow contractors. Mark Suessman
Owner, General Contractor
Mark has 25+ years of contracting experience in Washington and Utah. He also has an art and design background, which adds a unique skillset to this field. Mark can visualize a project like few can. He’s also a wonderfully positive, friendly people person. You’ll love working with him!
Jessica Taylor
Owner, President
Jessica brings an eclectic variety of skills to the team. She is a computer geek, finance guru, bona fide nerd, plant nut, nature lover--and a clone (i.e., identical twin)! Jess runs a lot of the behind-the-scenes components of the company, but she also ventures into the field more and more as her love of building grows. She takes care of everyone with a great big smile.
Dominic Goodwin
Assistant Superintendent
Dominic is Chris and Mark's right-hand man. He is a hard-working guy with an enormous heart, real vision, a love of adventure, Jeeping, dogs, and outdoors. His background includes both residential and commercial work in many different trades. He's eager to help our clients and subs throughout the projects so we all have a better building experience.
Chris Matthews

Chris has been a vital addition to our team in the last year. His knowledge, experience, positivity, and willingness to do whatever needs to be done gives our team the ability to accomplish our goals in an even more timely, professional fashion. His background includes industrial, residential and commercial work in many different trades. He loves tools to an almost unhealthy degree--he doesn't just collect them, he knows how to use them well. He's also a bit of a prankster, but not in a mean way. We know you'll love working with Chris!
Jack
Mascot / Inspiration
Jack was our 12-year-old black lab and the inspiration behind Black Lab Construction. He was loyal, friendly, fearless, strong, experienced, fun, smart--all the things we humans strive to be daily. He passed away in 2016. We still love you, Jack!
